Care & Maintenance
Chenille
Chenille is a textured fabric that is tightly woven with closed loops, making it very soft, like velvet, but with more durability. Chenille is family-friendly as it can be easily cleaned.
Caring for Chenille
Vacuum regularly
To prevent dust and dirt particles from building up, vacuum your chenille couch regularly. Use the upholstery attachment to remove any dirt or debris gently. Be careful not to use a high suction level, which can damage the fabric.
Blot spills immediately
If you spill something on your chenille couch, utilise a clean, white cloth to blot the spill immediately. Avoid rubbing the fabric, as this can cause the stain to spread. After you have blotted up as much of the spill as possible, use a chenille-specific cleaner to remove any remaining residue.
Use a chenille-specific cleaner
When it comes to cleaning your chenille couch, it’s important to use a cleaner that is designed specifically for this type of fabric. Never use harsh chemicals or bleach, as these can damage the fabric. Instead, choose a gentle, pH-neutral cleaner that is safe for chenille.
Test in an inconspicuous area
Before you start cleaning your entire chenille couch, testing the cleaner in an inconspicuous area is a good idea. This will help you to ensure that the cleaner doesn’t cause any damage or discoloration. Apply only a small amount of the cleaner to the test area and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, utilise a clean cloth to blot away the cleaner. If the area looks good, you can proceed with cleaning the rest of the couch.
Use a soft-bristled brush
When cleaning your chenille couch, gently scrub the fabric with a soft-bristled brush. This will help to loosen most of the dirt or debris without damaging the fabric. Ensure to brush in the direction of the nap to avoid damaging the texture of the chenille.
Allow the couch to dry completely
After cleaning your chenille couch, allow it to dry completely before using it again. Do not use a hairdryer or other heat source to speed up the drying process, as this can damage the fabric. Instead, let the couch air dry naturally.
